What We Sell

Here at Use Ya Loaf, we sell everything you need in terms of day-to-day food essentials. This includes fresh fruit and vegetables, dairy products such as milk, cheese, butter, and eggs, a variety of meats, cereals, cakes, and drinks (including CBD, cordials, and fizzy drinks). We even sell a range of ready meals, made fresh on site by our team.

Some of our stock is branded goods from some of the biggest food and drink manufacturers, some of it is own-label goods from the UK’s various supermarkets, while some are generic products produced for a mass market, with no particular branding to speak of.

What Is Redistributed Food?

We are a food redistribution outlet. This means we don’t get our stock from wholesalers like most supermarkets and retailers do. Instead, we liaise direct with the manufacturers to get your food and drink items at a greatly reduced price. These are items that otherwise would not be sold and end up on landfill as food waste, so the manufacturers are happy to get some kind of return.

These food items might not be suitable for sale for any number of reasons, whether they are surplus stock, short-dated items, packaged under old labelling following a branding change by the company. Whatever the reason, it’s all perfectly good food that we’re putting back into our local community. For more information about food waste, visit our The Problem page elsewhere on this site.

Where Our Food Comes From

As discussed, we intercept food at a manufacturing level and our stock comes from various sources, including such well-known household brands as Kellogs, Nestle, El Paso, Robinsons, Vimto, Colgate, Arla, Oxo, Napolina, Hollands, Yeo Valley, and more. We also get own-label brands and short-dated products from some of the country’s leading supermarkets, including Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury, and Marks & Spencer.

How It Works

At Use Ya Loaf, we like to keep things simple for our customers. To shop at our Atherton store, you need to be a member. Membership for the year costs £2.00 and membership runs from October to September. These membership fees help towards the upkeep of our store.

All items have a coloured sticker which tells you how much they are:

£1 = 1 Point and all items are marked with how many points they cost.

red sticker: 1 Point

yellow sticker: ½ Point

green sticker: ¼ Point

Simply pick up what you want and pay for it at the till – as simple as that.
